5 QUESTIONS
Second installment of 5 Questions.
This time we hit up Milkcrate Athletics founder, musician and world traveler: Aaron La Crate. His new Holiday just dropped at Boundless NY. We hold you down.
1. Milkcrate has been around since the beginning of this, where does the inspiration for the brand come from?
My inspiration really comes from my reality or things that I’ve been doing since I was a kid. Growing up in Baltimore, which is and was a very crime ridden gutter city I spent a lot of time out on the street entertaining myself.
I def got an early start in all of this music, street art stuff, so its really embedded in me and especially my design style – when your doing this since your 8 or 9 years old, and following guys like haring, warhol, stash, dondi, futura, as a child your influences run deep. Things like being under a bridge with a dead pitbull become inspiration.
2. YoYo NY has consistently brought the house down at Love. Whats the key to throwing a successful monthly in New York?
Thanks guys. You know it all falls in the realm of things that I enjoy doing, The YoYo NY party is a hobby for all of us, were all busy with a lot of music projects, our labels, fashion etc. Mark Ronson is my partner in the event and a old good buddy, he has had the most amazing year ever producing Amy and loads of other stuff, Seb and Leo are our boys from YoYo LDN and both are heavy music players in London.
Were all friends and YoYo NY is just a time once a month that we all get to see each other and play our new tracks, exclusives, and have fun – and that totally reflects in the atmosphere of the party.
Were on our 10th party and we’ve had some major talent in there. Were just focused on our own music Im the Gutter Kid – repping B-more party music, Mark does his thing, Seb and Leo hold down the hip, hop, ragga, and LDN flavors. Were all party djs doing different things but all support each other movements – we understand that the work we do is crucial for NYC and music in general.
3. Boundless NY / King Stampede is starting our East Village Radio show on Thursday at Midnight. What advice can you give from your EVR experiences.
Ive held down Marks show quite a bit when hes out of town. EVR is fun as hell – just get loads of imported beer, thats a must.
4. The new Ghostface or the new Wu ?
Ghost of course.
5. What one issue do you want to air out? Something on your mind? Give the Boundless readers a piece of your mind. Anything goes here.
