5 QUESTIONS
Its been a little while since we hit you with the Boundless 5 Questions. We’re sorry, it’s been busy over here. But we are back and so is Mighty Healthy.
Nick Langella put a pen to the paper on this round of 5 Questions with Ray Mate. Enjoy.
Oh and I threw in a bonus collage of Ray’s Greatest Hits from his Blog at CrazySteezYo.
1.What was your first skate set up?
Ray: Vision Ken Park with Indy’s and OJII Wheels
I had the worst griptape job ever
worst set up ever.
2. What do you know about cock fighting?
Ray: I know Aaron is a LOM (Lover of Men) but it does not make him a bad person.
My dad breeds fighting cocks and has had a few champs. He has a a dozen of them in the Phillippines at our Summer home out there. All I know is that its really gnarly to watch and my pops does well with it. They have supplements that are made to feed those fuckers to get them amped!!
3. What’s your favorite skate spot in Long Island?
Ray: Right now I would say Lido Beach Skatepark…..its by the beach and its fun to skate. Mini ramps, little banks and quarterpipes. All the homies go there like Fink, Dan Lee, Gino Iannucci, Matt Bell and Rozetti
4. Give me one word to describe the state of our industry and what it means?
Ray: Its pretty whatevs right now….too many brands but some will rise and some will fall
5. when are you going to get a dog son?
Ray: Well I have been traveling a lot so I cant really have one right now
when things are all settled maybe I will get my french bulldog one of these days
KING STAMPEDE x SHUT
Pete Leonard’s Blog over at Tumblr keeps delivering. He has some more inside information about the King Stampede x Shut Deck that will be released soon.
I’m really honored and stoked to be posting this right now. Here is the bottom graphic for the board we designed with SHUT. This been a fantasy of mine since Shut first popped on the scene in the mid to late eighties.
My friend John Spitzer and I literally bough uncut blanks from westwood cycle & made our own custom shapes, I think Natas had shape of choice at the time… We did our graphics with ruby Lith and shredded the 3 ft mini in his garage.
Seriously, we got so on the nut that we named our boards SWEAT! shout to sessions at the Gotham Banks!

JOVAN DOE SOCIETY : STORE SHOUTS
Young Jovie, back with this report via his blog
A.P.C. Surplus
33 Grand Street
Brooklyn, NY 11211
tel. 1 347 381 3193
I thought it was impossible to love A.P.C. much more but now A.P.C. proved me wrong when they opened the surplus store in Williamsburg, Brooklyn last year. Now we all can grab any items from previous seasons for a reduced price(up to %50 off) Thank You!!! (New jeans and the french vintage military wear too at regular price)
A.P.C. is a very personal brand for me. I look at brands like I would look at prospective friend; I need there to be more than what meets the eye. A.P.C. was one of the brands that helped me get away from “billboarding” and understanding what quality clothing was about. Quality doesn’t have to necessarily scream their logo all over one’s body but precise cuts, thoughtful measurements, and tasteful branding. Danish creative designer Jean Touitou created french minimalist label APC or “Atelier de Production et de Creation” in 1988.
A.P.C. has shrugged off early label “French Gap” while producing a consistently chic designer brand with a quasi-cult feeling.(Many forget that initially A.P.C. was only available at flagships locations like Paris, New York City, London, and Tokyo). Around 2001, A.P.C. began the process of opening distribution and selling to the bigger chains like Barney’s and Bergdorf Goodman).
Personally am a huge fan of their jeans which have been the only jeans besides 501’s and Ktsubi/Tsubi that had that instant great feel. I used to love levis 501 and vintage orange tabs(1970’s era only) as a youngster.
Understanding the first pair of new standards I tried on I knew it was a new era in denim for me. Honestly have no problem with buying 5 pair of the same jean and thats the beauty behind A.P.C. jeans. Depending on what you do and how you wear them, each pair will come out differently.
