GOING FOR GOLD...

696

Words by Aaron Hansen

After the lack luster 3rd Place finish in the 2004 Summer Games, the USA Mens Basketball team is getting back to work this August in China.

And guarantees alone are not going to win the Gold this time around. Gone are the days of the 80 point blowout victories, the world has finally caught up with the game we invented.

I am excited to see how this team handles the pressure of the 2008 Olympics. I am eager to watch the NBA’s best young talent, mix with the veterans I’ve cheered for the last 12 years. I want to see the USA play to their full potential and watch them take home a Gold Metal.

But it is not going to be easy. And neither is getting up for games at 8am. But regardless, the US needs this team to take home the Gold. And I need my basketball fix.

Click here for the upcoming schedule for the 2008 US Mens Summer Olympic team. And lets hope LeBron is right about this one.

BIODEGRADABLE POOP BAGS

695

Words by James Farsetta

If you have a dog then you need these. I purchased these and they work great plus its good to know that I am doing my part to pitch in. Now you have no reason to collect plastic bags from the shopping centers and should switch over to cloth bags for all your shopping needs. Its important to do your part to eliminate the use of plastic bags in our country.

According to PoopBags.com , it’s estimated that dog owners collect over 4 million tons of dog poop each year. Twenty to thirty percent of all pollutants in waterways can be attributed to dog poop, pollutants that originate from dog poop then mix with rainwater and drain into storm sewers and eventually local waterways.

WODWO

694

A new breed of music arrived on my doorstep this sunny afternoon. Now let me preface this story by saying I haven’t looked forward to a package coming in the mail since I mail ordered my first Marc Gonzales complete from the back of Thrasher magazine in 1986. Now on with the story….....On tuesday of this week my best friend emailed me asking for my address stating “he had something to send me that was a long time in the making.” Now seeing as he is one of the most brilliant musical minds I have ever known, I figured it was gonna be one of his spectacular musical concoctions, but I had no idea what I was in for. Well the Package arrived in the mail today and it was his first solo album. The one he spoke about so many times, the one in which I was never sure if I would get to hear, and brother let me tell you he did it in the finest fashion possible. My ears have never heard such beauty, at least not from anything I have heard in the past decade. Stunning minimal soundscapes inspired by Ouroboros, religious chants, Mantras, rituals, invocations, primordial archetypes & cyclical patterns. Sounds Deep doesn’t it ? Well deep doesnt even come close to describing the beauty my ears have discovered with the first listen of his album. All from the heart, hypnotic and trance-evoking. Got you eager enough ? Well you’ll have to wait for it to drop. Dan my brother you really out did your self this time kid !

HARVESTED & COOKED !

693

So I harvested my first onion & pepper of the season this morning & decided to cook em’ up fresh from the ground. My wife was looking at me like I was crazy because this was at 6:45 AM, but the excitement of my first harvest left me with no choice. Now growing up this was a staple side dish every sunday at Nana’s house and in the spirit of Tradition I needed to hook it up. So heres the recipe its fast, easy and delicious:
• 1 Fresh Organic Pepper
• 1/2 a Fresh Organic Onion
• 1 Tablespoon of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
• Sea Salt ( to taste )
• Crushed Red Pepper ( A pinch )
• Black Pepper ( to taste )
• A Little pinch of Sugar ( Optional )
Combine contents in a small skillet and cook covered on a very low flame for about 15 minutes stirring every few minutes. You’ll know its done when the peppers get soft and start to brown just slightly. I prefer to make sandwiches out of the finished product but you can eat it however you like. I promise you’ll love it ! The best thing about the whole deal was when I got home after dropping my son off at camp this morning, my house smelled like my Nanas used too and the memories came flooding in. Lovely !
